Read about best practices for retrieving data in our
API Guide.
Differentiated rate limits mean that limits can vary between datasets. The applied limits reflect how often a dataset is updated and how it is typically used. This allows productive usage while preventing excessive or redundant requests.
Rate limits are introduced gradually. Initially, they are applied to Discontinued datasets, and usage and system impact are monitored continuously. Rate‑limit settings may be adjusted over time to maintain a good user experience.
Follow the dataset‑specific request frequency guidance included on selected dataset pages or the general guideline available in the
API Guide. Making requests more frequently than recommended does not provide additional value if the data has not changed.
If you exceed the allowed number of requests, the API will respond with:
HTTP 429 – “Rate limit is exceeded. Try again in X seconds.”
The response indicates how long you must wait before making another request. Requests made before the waiting period expires may continue to be rejected.
An HTTP 429 – “Rate limit is exceeded. Try again in X seconds.” error means that your application has made more requests to a dataset than allowed within a given time period.
Rate limits are applied to ensure platform stability and efficient use of resources. The response includes information about how long you must wait before making another request. Requests made before this waiting period expires may continue to be rejected.
To avoid HTTP 429 errors, follow the dataset‑specific request frequency guidance included on selected dataset pages or the general guideline available in the
API Guide. Making requests more frequently than recommended does not provide additional value if the data has not changed.
Your IP address has been blocked due to excessive request volumes. Please review and adjust your code.
Follow the dataset‑specific request frequency guidance included on selected dataset pages or the general guideline available in the
API Guide.
If you are using a Home Assistant, make sure to update your extension to comply with the recommended request frequency.
To request reinstatement of your IP address, please contact us including your IP address.
If you get the error message '403 Client Error' when trying to fetch data, try restarting your system.
On each dataset page you may read information about the data - both an overall description, key facts and column descriptions.
We monitor the quality of the published datasets daily. When errors occur, we work on resolving them as fast as possible on weekdays between 8-16.
Updates are published on datasets and on
NEWS.

It may be expected that our systems will be available for more than 90% of the time. As Energi Data Service is a free service, outages are resolved on weekdays between 8-16.
Scheduled maintenances are announced on
